SUV Collides with Special-Needs School Bus

Driver of the SUV was sent to hospital, but no one on the bus was injured.

A traffic accident involving a sports utility vehicle and a school bus carrying special-needs students occurred at the intersection of Oak Road and River Drive Wednesday afternoon, according to Gwinnett Police.

Cpl. Jake Smith reported that no one on the bus, including five students, was injured, but the driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with "non-life-threatening" injuries.

Smith said more information would be released later, perhaps Thursday. "I don't know who is at fault at this point," he added

The Gwinnett Daily Post, citing a spokesman from Gwinnett County Schools, reported there were seven people aboard the bus — including five students from in Lawrenceville.

The wreck happened at 2:48 p.m. in an unincorporated area near where the zip codes of Lawrenceville and Lilburn come together.
