Overnight Fire Damages Pizza Shop

An overnight fire caused heavy damage to the Buna Pizza Cafe in Lawrenceville, but no injuries were reported.

Gwinnett County fire officials said that a passer-by reported seeing smoke coming from the pizza restaurant, which is located in a strip mall at 1190 Five Forks Trickum Road.

When crews arrived about 12:09 a.m. they found smoke coming from the building, and inside a fire burned in the kitchen near the back door. The fire was quickly extinguished, officials said in a press release.

The fire was contained to the pizza cafe, and there was significant damage in the kitchen, including smoke throughout the business, officials said.

By 12:26, the fire was under control.

"All businesses within the shopping center, including the pizza cafe, were already closed for the night, and no injuries were reported," said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, fire department spokesman.
