New Details in Fatal Tractor Trailer Accident on 316

GCPD confirms the driver from Dacula died in Thursday morning’s accident in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Ga.

Gwinnett County Police say the driver in Thursday morning’s accident on Highway 316 has died.

According to GCPD, 68 year old Anvir Karim of Dacula died after his 1997 black Nissan Maxima got wedged beneath a tractor trailer.

A preliminary investigation showed that at 6:39am, the tractor trailer was headed eastbound on 316 when it turned left onto Hurricane Trail. Karim was headed westbound and was unable to stop and avoid the crash.

Karim suffered critical injuries and rescue crews had to extricate him from his car. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate and charges against the truck driver from Columbia S.C. are pending.

My husband and I turn left at that intersection all the time and at night I always complain that it is too dark to see where you're going. I'm sure it was dark at 6:39 am when the driver of the car missed seeing the truck in time. I think this has happened here before with the same outcome. Publix trucks turn there for the wharehouse, they should help pay for some lighting.

I don't know if lights are in the plans for the improvements on 316. If not, maybe you could suggest it to the County Commissioners.
