Mountain View High School Teacher Accused of Sexual Assault

The teacher resigned Monday, May 6.

A Mountain View High School teacher is facing a charge of sexual assault in connection with an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student.

According to Gwinnett County Public Schools Director of Media Relations Jorge Quintana, Mountain View High School mathematics teacher Thomas Frederick Grimshaw, of 2840 Ashton Tree Court in Dacula, resigned Monday, May 6, as a result of a human resources investigation into the alleged relationship.

The investigation began May 3 after MVHS principal Keith Chaney reported a possible sexual assault, which allegedly occurred at the school on April 29.

"The district did make a report to DFACS and to the Professional Standards Commission regarding these allegations. A warrant was issued for his arrest on May 7," Quintana wrote in an email to Dacula Patch.

Grimshaw, who had been with the district since August 2006, was booked into the jail on May 8 on a charge of sexual assault. Bond has not been set.

"This is still an open criminal investigation," Quintana said.
