Man Tries to Kill Wife, Posed Threat to Lawrenceville Business

The man blamed a business at Briscoe Field for his financial woes.

A Lawrenceville man reportedly tried to kill his wife before possibly going on a rampage at a business near Briscoe Field, according to Gwinnett County Police.

On Wednesday, May 2, GCPD received a report of a homicide at 8:12am. The caller said his brother, 51 year oldΒ Mulugeta Ejigu, had just killed his wife and was going to kill himself. The caller also said Ejigu was having financial problems with a gas station he purchased from Hewatt Enterprises and blamed the business for his issues.

Ejigu's brother said the man was headed to Hewatt's offices at Briscoe Field, possibly with the intention to kill people there. The caller also warned police that Eligu had owned guns. He also provided GCPD with a description of Eligu's car.

Less than 30 minutes later, an officer spotted Ejigu in the parking lot at Hewatt's offices. The officer took cover behind his car and gave verbal commands to Ejigu. Less than a minute later, the suspect shot himself in the face. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

A short time later, another group of officers went to Ejigu's home on Sunnyside Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville. They found his 46 year old wife on the floor badly beaten but alive. She had apparently been struck in the head. She was also taken to the hospital and is also expected to survive.

Ejigu will be charged with aggravated assault when he is released from the hospital. GCPD is investigating if he will face other charges as well.
