Man Charged with Kidnapping, Robbing Woman in Lawrenceville

Reginald Johnson of Lawrenceville was arrested on a number of charges following an alleged attack on a woman within the city limits. The victim told police she feared he was going to rape her.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who reportedly attacked a woman in the city of Lawrenceville and tried to steal her car.

Reginald McArthur Johnson, who is listed as living at 1300 Bridle Path Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville, was arrested on June 19 in connection to the crime, which occurred on March 18.

According to a report obtained by Patch from the Lawrenceville Police Department, a woman was taking trash out after cleaning a doctors’ office at 747 Old Norcross Road just after midnight back in March. The cleaning woman told police she saw a black male standing near the back corner of the building. She said the man followed her as she walked towards the trashcan. Afraid, the woman turned around and walked to her car.

She was able to turn around and shove her fingers into his eyes, stunning him. But the man then started punching the victim in her face and head.

The woman managed to break free and tried to run, but the suspect caught her and tackled her to the ground.  The victim told police she tried to kick Johnson off of her because she thought he was going to rape her.

The man reportedly grabbed her feet, but the woman was able to wiggle out of her shoes and run off again.

The suspect did not follow the woman this time. Instead he drove off in her 2010 Hyundai Elantra.

The victim ran to Old Norcross Road where she was able to flag down a car for help. The man drove her to another medical office where he then called police.

Three months later, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s deputies tracked down Johnson.

He was arrested and charged with sexual battery, violation of probation, robbery, kidnapping and battery.

He is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
