Lightning Strikes Lawrenceville Home, Sparks Small Fire

Saturday night's storm caused damage to a number of homes in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett fire/emergency workers were out in force Saturday night as they responded to four storm-related incidents, two caused by lightning strikes.

A lightning strike caused a fire at 3347 Remembrance Trace in Lawrenceville. The occupant called 911 after smelling smoke in the basement area of the house, according to reports. The fire quickly was extinguished by first-due firefighters, and no injuries were reported.

Also, lightning caused a small fire at 1154 Gulfport Run in Grayson. The fire was reported in the master bedroom, and firefighters quickly knocked down the flames. There were no injuries reported.

Two incidents were in Lilburn. Trees were down across houses, one at 4083 John's Street and one at 1103 Hasty Court. Occupants were in both houses at the time, but no injuries were reported. The tree penetrated the roof at the John' s Street address, but no major structural damage was done.

Also, news reports indicated that about 800 people are without power from Saturday's storm.
