Lawrenceville Man Charged With Setting Home on Fire After Fight With Wife

Ivan Jaramillo, 42, was admitted into the Gwinnett County Jail around 11 a.m. Wednesday on a first-degree arson charge.

A Lawrenceville man was arrested Wednesday (May 1) for setting his home on fire after a domestic dispute with his wife.

Ivan Jaramillo, 42, was booked around 11 a.m. on a first-degree arson charge, according to Gwinnett County jail records.

In a news release, Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said fire investigators believe Jaramillo intentionally set fire to the master bedroom on the second floor of his home, located on the 200 block of Galesburg Drive.

"Sufficient evidence was found that indicated Jaramillo started the fire, which caused moderate damage to the room of origin and sent smoke throughout the second floor," Rutledge said in the email.

Citing the case as being an ongoing investigation, Rutledge would not release details on how the first was set, nor specifics on the dispute between Jaramillio and his wife. Jaramillo was arrested at the scene.

Firefighters responded to the home around 6:52 a.m., and was extinguished before it could spread to other parts of the home. No injuries were reported.

Fire investigators confirmed that Jaramillo had a domestic dispute with his wife, and police were called to the home around 1 a.m. She and their teenage daughter left the home shortly after the incident, leaving Jaramillo the only one home at the time of the fire, according to Rutledge.

Rutledge added that first-degree arson is a felony crime and carries a penalty of one to 20 years behind bars and associated fines.
