A Gwinnett County man turned himself in Friday after being wanted for causing a fiery accident on Interstate 75 in Cobb County last month that killed two people.

Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said Vahid Husic, 40, of Lawrenceville, has been charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving and following too closely.

Husic is being held the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond, Pierce said.

Husic was identified as the driver of a white 2005 Volvo tractor-trailer who triggered an eight-vehicle accident on I-75 near the Hickory Grove Road overpass in Acworth on Nov. 14.

Police said while traffic in the northbound lanes was slow due to road construction, the tractor-trailer slammed into a BMW, which then struck a minivan. All three vehicles collided with five other vehicles in an accident that spread out over four lanes of traffic and two emergency lanes.

The BMW caught fire, killing the driver, 47-year-old Gregory Millsaps of Marietta. His identity was confirmed after a check of dental records.

A passenger in the minivan, Barbara Phenicie, 71, of Peachtree City, was pronounced dead on arrival at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, and five other people were injured.

Husic was taken to Kennestone with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Pierce said police obtained a warrant for Husic's arrest on Thursday.
