Lawrenceville Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Police

An elderly Lawrenceville man is being accused of pointing a gun at police investigators not in uniform.

James McIntyre, 68, was arrested and charged with pointing a pistol at another, according to the Gwinnett County Police report.

The incident occurred on the 2000 block of Wisteria Court in Lawrenceville. In plain clothes, three police investigators wanted to speak with a resident, but the person wasn't home.

As the investigators left, they noticed a red laser being pointed inside the car, one of them wrote in the report. It was coming from the top of the road near a stop sign, so they drove over there and saw two men, one of them being McIntyre, standing in a nearby yard.

Angry, McIntyre walked to the car and asked what the three of them were doing in the neighborhood. He had a gun in his hand.

The investigator said they was there to see someone, but the man continued to ask why they were there.

The three men exited the vehicle, told McIntyre they were the police and to put the gun down. As he put the gun down, the report says, the investigators noticed the weapon had a sticker on the side that indicated it was equipped with a laser sight.

They told McIntyre that he was being arrested for pointing a pistol at another, but he reasoned that he thought they were trying to break into the house.

When one of the investigators asked him if he thought they were going to break into the house, then why did he point the gun after they got back into the car to leave, the suspect admitted that he was just trying to scare them because he didn't know what they were doing. 

During his arrest, the officer found a second gun on him. He was transported to Gwinnett County Jail.
