Inside the Police Reports: So I Don't Have to Pay to Sign up for a Credit Card?

A Lawrenceville man fell for a credit card scam that cost him $2,000.

A Lawrenceville man reportedly lost $2,000 in an odd credit card scam earlier this month.

According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the 24-year-old man told authorities that he was searching Google for credit cards when he came across an ad for the "Master Plan Card."

He called the number attached to the ad and spoke with a woman who went by the name "Christine." She told him to get a Green Dot prepaid card and load $2,000 onto it so that she could transfer that money on the Master Plan Card.

He followed her instructions and gave her the prepaid card information. "Christine" advised him to call her back at a later time so that she could give him the new information for the Master Plan Card.

He told police that he tried to contact her, but wasn't able to. He contacted Green Dot, and a representative told him that the prepaid card company has the information of where Christine transferred his money to, but would not release the details to him.
