UPDATE: New Hope Road Reopened After Gas Leak

The gas line was reportedly cut by a road construction crew working in the area in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Update: The situation is now under control and New Hope Road is open to traffic. "We are fortunate that gas vapors were able to readily dissipate into the atmosphere and did not pose a significant threat to the surrounding community," said Gwinnett Fire PIO Tommy Rutledge in a release.

A natural gas leak has shut down a section of New Hope Road in Lawrenceville. 

According to Gwinnett Fire Department's Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a road construction crew working at New Hope Road at Hiram Davis Road cut a four-inch gas line.

New Hope Road between Grayson New Hope Road and East Bowman Road is closed to traffic. Hiram Davis Road has also been shut down at New Hope Road.

Firefighters are currently on the scene monitoring the situation. An emergency crew from the Lawrenceville Gas Company is there working to repair the leak.
