Funeral for Jasmine Benjamin Thursday

The investigation into the death of the 17 year old Valdosta State student from Lawrenceville, Ga. continues.

Family and friends planned to celebrate Jasmine Cathleen Benjamin's 18th birthday on Saturday. Instead, they will say their final goodbyes to her on Thursday evening. Her funeral will be held at 5pm at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home’s Gwinnett Chapel, 914 Scenic Highway, Lawrenceville. Viewing hours are Wednesday until 7pm.

Benjamin was found dead in a study room at Valdosta State College, where the 17 year old Benjamin was a freshman, on Sunday, Nov. 18.

The young woman's parents told CBS Atlanta they have hired Lawrenceville based private investigator Robin Martinelli in hopes of generating new leads and finding a suspect.

“We have started an investigation where we are finding anything on social media, and that’s where we need your help. Where any of her friends and family on social media that might want to come forward on any of the accounts meaning Twitter, Instagram and Facebook,” said private investigator Robin Martinelli to CBS Atlanta.

Benjamin's parents, Judith Brogdon and stepfather James Jackson, reportedly learned of their daughter's death through Facebook. A Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy notified her family on Sunday afternoon, hours after Benjamin's body had been discovered.
