Former Braves Player Andruw Jones' Wife Files for Divorce in Lawrenceville Court

The divorce filing followed a domestic incident between Jones and his wife at their home in Duluth. Andruw Jones was charged with battery in the incident.

The Miami Herald reported Wednesday (Jan. 2) that Nicole D. Jones, the wife of former Atlanta Braves star Andruw R. Jones, has filed for divorce.

Patch confirmed through court records that Mrs. Jones filed for divorce Monday (Jan. 31) in Gwinnett County Superior Court in Lawrenceville.

The divorce filing followed the early Christmas Day arrest of Andruw Jones at the couple’s Sugarloaf Country Club home in unincorporated Duluth. He was arrested and charged with battery by Gwinnett Police as the result of a domestic incident involving his wife. The incident reportedly occurred after guests had left a Christmas party at their home, according to the police report.

An argument ensued after Mrs. Jones asked her husband to help prepare the home for Christmas morning, the police report stated. She reported to police that her husband dragged her down stairs when she tried to go up to the second floor of the house, grabbed her by the neck, and threatened to kill her.

Mrs. Jones told police she was able to push him away because he was intoxicated. She left and called police about 1:25 a.m. from her parents’ home nearby.

When police arrived at the home, Andruw Jones was asleep. After being awakened, he appeared confused about why police were there, according to the police report.

Andruw Jones was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail about 3:48 a.m. then released on $2,400 bond later that morning.

The incident is not mentioned in the divorce complaint, according to the Miami Herald article.

Mrs. Jones claims their 10-year marriage is “irretrievably broken” and seeks joint legal and primary custody of their 9-year-old son, child support, alimony, and half of the couple’s property, the Miami Herald reported. She also is asking that their prenuptial agreement be declared null and void.

Jones recently signed a contract to play with the Japanese League’s Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2013.
