Father Indicted in Shaking Death of 3-Month-Old Daughter

Reuben Valrie, 28, was indicted on two counts of felony murder by grand jury.

The Lawrenceville man accused in the death of his 3-month-old daughter in January has been indicted for felony murder by a Gwinnett County grand jury.

Rueben Arthur Valrie, 28, faces two counts of felony murder and one count each of cruelty to children and aggravated battery, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported Thursday.

Police say Valrie violently shook his infant daughter Aliyana Valrie, resulting in fatal internal injuries, including bleeding from the head.

Valrie reportedly called 911 after Aliyana stopped breathing on Jan. 17 at Wesley St. Claire Apartments near Lawrenceville. The infant girl was pronounced dead later at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Valrie was arrested on Jan. 17. "Detectives developed probable cause to believe that Reuben Valrie had caused Aliyana’s injuries by shaking her," Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said on Jan. 17.

The Post reported the child sustained multiple injuries, including broken ribs, lacerated liver and bleeding from the abdomen and head. The county medical examiner said her injuries were not consistent with Valrie’s explanations of what happened.
