The driver of a car crushed by a fallen tree Friday morning near Duluth may have sustained serious internal injuries, a Gwinnett Fire spokesman said.
The man, whose identity and medical condition were not released due to privacy laws, was taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center after a large tree fell on his vehicle around 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 30 on Abbotts Bridge Road.
It took rescue crews about an hour to extricate the man, who has pinned from the waist down.
“Though conscious and alert, the driver, an adult male, may have sustained serious internal injuries that were not obvious at the scene,” Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a media release. “He presented at the scene with obvious cuts and bruising, but his waist and legs were severely pinned. We continue to hold out hope that the man's condition will continue to improve.”
The man was driving on Abbotts Bridge Road toward downtown Duluth when the tree came down.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.
