Driver in Fatal Crash Arrested Before in Gwinnett
Latora Barrett of Columbia, S.C., the man charged in last week's fatal crash on 316, had been arrested on driving related charges last year.
The man behind the wheel of a tractor trailer involved in a deadly car crash on Highway 316 had been arrested just one year ago in Gwinnett County.
Latora Barrett of Columbia, S.C. was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide following Thursday's fatal car crash. Barrett was reportedly turning on to Hurricane Trail from 316 when a car driven by 68 year old Anvir Karim of Dacula crashed and got wedged beneath Barrett's trailer. Karim later died from his injuries.
According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, Barrett had been arrested in Gwinnett County in October of 2011. They cite the Gwinnett County Police Department as saying an officer pulled Barrett over Pleasant Hill Road for a malfunctioning tail light. During that stop Barrett, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended commercial drivers license. He also had charges related to prescription pills found in the cabin of his truck. Those charges were later dropped according to the Post.
