A man accused of murdering a Lawrenceville child more than five years ago, has been arrested in Mexico according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
A joint investigation by Mexican authorities, The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office, The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Department of Justice led to the arrest of Christian Vasquez.
On June 21, 2008, arrest warrants for Vasquez were obtained, charging him with the murder of a 3 year old girl at a home on Stillwater Lane in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The crime occurred in either January or February of 2007, but was not reported to police until June 2008.
According to the GCSO, the little girl died from a skull fracture to the back of the head caused by blunt force. Vasquez reportedly then hid the child's body in the attic. The suspect then fled to Mexico to try to elude police.
Authorities finally caught up with Vasquez on Tuesday, July 31st in Puebla, Mexico. Vasquez is now awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
