Residents in Georgia, Other States Want To Secede From U.S.

The move, which is gathering steam, is being done in the wake of President Obama's re-election.

Residents of Georgia and more than a dozen other states have filed petitions to secede from the United States, according to media reports.

Residents of Alabama, New York, Michigan, Texas and other states have filed the petitions under the "We The People" program, featured on the White House website, according to the Huffington Post.

The Georgia petition, which already has more than 4,000 signatures, reads in part:

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

The petitions come in the wake of President Obama winning a second term November 6 over Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

According to the Huffington Post, The White House website explains of the review process for "We the People" petitions that get 25,000 signatures in a 30-day period: "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response."

how will your state protect itself without a military?ill you put up walls around ea. state? i dont think you people thought this thing out.would you need a passport to go to disneyland?UNITED WE STAND DEVIDED WE FALL.

Bill not really considering that if Spain actually changes its constitution to allow the seperation of that region, once they get their independance they will immediatly apply for membership of the European Union an even bigger mess than the US (not just talking financially) this also goes for Scotland seeking independance from the UK. We have these petitions but considering less than 0.5% of people actually signed it, its kind of dead in the water.

"Lunatic Fringe" is a phrase well-describing of those whom would now rather secede than participate in Our Nations governmental processes...who'd rather continue throwing-sticks into the spokes of Obamas Presidency for their chronic malcontent of Its success at legitimate polls than move-forward the day AFTER conclusion of the election by working TOGETHER toward finding balanced solutions to Their concerns, if not rather standing aside otherwise...no, they'd rather want only to IMPEEDE the process, doing-so in the name of yester-century "Patriotisim" completely oblivious (if not in denial ; ) of the Nations evolving demographics. Like the T-shirt says: The problem is obvious.
