Is Technology Too Intrusive in Our Lives?

Do you people think should take time to “unplug” from technology - to "disconnect to reconnect" - even if just for a little while each day?

Concern is now being expressed about the negative impact technology has had on the family unit. Forest Insurance recently put out a Youtube video on just how much technology has encroached on family togetherness.

“Foresters purpose is to champion family well-being and we do that through quality life insurance, unique member benefits and inspiring community activities,” says George Mohacsi, President and CEO, Foresters. “We are always looking for innovative ways to help families spend time together and challenging them to ‘disconnect to reconnect’ is a simple way to turn our purpose into action.”

According to the Center for Digital Future, in 2008, 28 percent of people said that being wired has resulted in the spending less time with family members. This is a significant increase from the 11 percent just two years before. According to a recent study, the average home in the US has 24 different media communication devices, from televisions, computers, smartphones, etc., and this makes for social isolation, even when in the same room. Forester, an international insurances provider, has launched the Tech TimeoutTM challenge, a North American initiative that encourages families to take a daily scheduled break from technology in order to reconnect with real live people.

Do you think technology is too intrusive in our lives and it is a good idea to “disconnect to reconnect” on a daily basis in order to maintain real personal relationships?

Our memory is worse on average since the written word came about. I'd say we're better off in net for having portable and duplicatable knowledge. People make the same negative claims about every new technology. Then society adapts and improves alongside the new technology, and we move on to better things that weren't possible before.

Yes. We are getting news, some unfiltered, too quickly. Television shows have, for the most part, lost their quality. We have clowns doing what is called reality shows!! Who cares what Honey Boo Boo, or the trashy Kardashians, and Donald Trump, he has had several marriages go south, but because he has money, he seems to be a standard bearer for the republicans! We need to slow things down, outlaw texting in cars, and bring our groups home. We also need TH FAIR TAX, and disband the Electoral Collage! It has outlived it's usefulness!!!

Our school systems stink. Teachers, firemen, and police are underpaid, but legislators, CEO's, executives are overpaid. We send money & food to countries that really don't need it, but our children are starving!! College tuition has gone through the roof. These are the things that need fixing. Let's put some of those brains, that are working on the latest, fastest, technology work out some of these problems! We need all the help we can get. Putting the emphasis on abortion, gay marriage, and other hate manger items should not be used on a platform, we need to solve the larger problems. Something about not seeing the forest for the trees!!!

Technology is another tool we use. it all depends on how you use it.
