Hip to the Trip

This weekend, take a short trip to a nice family, fun filled escape in our town square leading into fall and other festive affairs around Georgia.

, an event that many L’ville families wouldn't dare to miss, brings fun games, prizes, give-a-ways, dance, performances, food and much more. It kicks off a long list of other affairs that will take place under this beautiful weather that leads us into our Georgia fall.

Down 85 south is Decatur, home to many colleges and student bodies. With such learning centers comes lots of fun. In September alone, special events include Jazz Nights at Scottish Rites on September 22nd and 29th, Concerts on the Square on September  24th, and the Blue SkyFestival. Decatur is known for many musician and arts stars, including John Mayer and Indigo Girls, who have played at the famous Eddie’s Attic and still drop by from time to time. If you love a great night of fine dining worth its weight in gold then try Boogaloos, Vivid and Squash Blossom, amongst dozens of others.

Looking to take a road trip for an escape? Go east to the world-famous city of Athens. While about five times larger than Decatur, Athens has a provincial down-home attitude that leaves the locals loving it and the tourists longing for more stuff not found in the usual places. There are scores of fun bars, restaurants, cafes and quaint little spots to stop and drink tea and take in the world around or simply read a book and relax. There’s a lot of night fun to be had, too. Take a peek at Allen’s, Athens oldest running bar which has showcased music stars like the B-52’s and Grammy-winners R.E.M. If you like bikes, check out the annual Twilight Series bike races.
