Is it possible to have too much music?

What's in store for us in the next couple of months? Check out these awesome performers, musicians, storytellers, advocates, geniuses.....I can go on and on.

The answer to this title is: no.

It's been a long March and April is looking quite nice when it come to good tunes and fun times.

I had the privilege to watch both Rich Robinson and Elephant Revival at Smith's Olde Bar this last month. Two very different shows and each delivered a type of experience that if you were there you'd have felt like you were a life long fan. It would have snuck up on you but it would have been both exciting and familiar at the same time. Which is why I preach the importance of live shows anywhere....a bar, your backyard or commercial venue. If you inhale what is happening that very second in front of your eyes you'll almost be able to see the essence of that person singing or playing in front of you... but that just might be the hippy in me talking. So when's the next opportunity to try something new?

Kristi Lee, Michelle Malone & Hussy Hick- A guaranteed soulful show, these ladies will deliver all they have and more. If you like Brandi Carlile then I'm pretty sure you'd dig this.

The Red Clay Theater in Duluth. Saturday, April 7th Doors open at 7:00pm Advance general admission: $18 At the door: $20

Candlebox- Ha! Yeah I know....you're judging. I can't help it! I have a soft spot for childhoods bands. Guilty pleasure. I understand your skepticism and if your into it, I'll see you there....if you're not....we'll never speak of it again.

57 Main in Duluth. Wednesday April 11th. $15 in advance and $25 at the door.

Trampled By Turtles- A good time...and an amazing show. TBT is the perfect amount of everything and one of the better shows of last year. They are coming out with a new album so regardless of whether or not you know the music everyone will be experiencing something new. If you did want to do some research, I'd recommend their album Palimino particularly "Wait So Long" and "Bloodshot Eyes". The bonus will be the opening act William Elliot Whitmore......don't miss him!

The Variety Playhouse. Friday April 27th Doors open at 7:30pm General Admission $20

Madeleine Peyroux- This might be a more universal show and tickles me that she has chosen to play The Variety Playhouse. I stumbled upon her music about two years ago and when she sings, I listen. Both jazzy and soulful, I have actually played her music a lot at the teashop. She fits in here.

The Variety Playhouse. Friday May 18th. Doors open at 7pm. $33.50-$36

Flaming Lips & Young the Giant- First ticketed show in a decade at Centennial Park. Fan or not this line up looks pretty good (also includes Awol Nation and Dawes) and it's been years since I've seen Flaming Lips live... actually they opened up for my first Candlebox concert....and it all comes full circle!!!!!

Centennial Park. Saturday May19th. 3pm-11pm. $25 in advance $30 at the gate.

Dave Mathews Band- Oh Lakewood, how I avoid you at all cost. My internal musical organs are conflicted about this one. Not my ideal venue to watch my first DMB show (yes, first...long story) I need convincing on this one....or someone to drag me. I know some of you folks out there are hard core....so start convincing.

Aaron's Amphitheater at Lakewood. May 22nd. 7:30pm $40.50 - $75.

Laura Marling- I can go on forever about Laura Marling. She's intense but not obscene. She is part contributor to one of my favorite duet songs w/Johnny Flynn. She's young and heartbroken and is the making to all that is music. She'll be the first show that I will actually be nervous to go to....'cause my expectations are high.

The Variety Playhouse. Sunday June 2nd. Doors open at 8pm. $16 in advance $18 day of the show.

Bon Iver- JUST ANNOUNCED! Fresh of his Grammy win, Bon Iver is making his rounds and coming to grace us with their awesomeness and honey like music. "Skinny Love" played a major role in my life last year and for that alone I will always love Bonnie Bear.

The Verizon Amphitheater. June 8th doors open at 7pm. $39.50 & $29.50 Reserved

Futhur- If you know, you'd go.

The Verizon Amphitheater Tuesday July 10th. Doors open at 6:00pm. $59.50 & $49.50 Reserved; $39.50 Lawn

There are plenty of shows this Summer including the Downtown Lawrenceville Moonlight Concert Series. Check them out, they are free and always fun! Check out the next blog for more information on this!

So I ask, what's the next show you're planning to go see?
