Downtown Lawrenceville's Summer Lineup

Check out what's in store for the summer!

It's that time of year again. Downtown Lawrenceville presents Moonlight & Music on the Square. For those of you who aren't aware of this FREE concert series, from May to September, Downtown Lawrenceville is offering 5 FREE concerts at the Historic Courthouse. There is something for everybody and traditionally a whole lot of fun. It's community, live music and the outdoors all in one night. Did I mention it was free?

So here's the line up and of course my two cents:

May 25 Sons of Sailors- A Jimmy Buffet cover band....ok so I've either peaked your interest or completely turned you off at Jimmy Buffet. So here's the thing... as someone who has too much to say about music, Sons of Sailors have played this concert series for the last few years and are pretty good at it. It appeals to the kids, parents and even dates. A big plus is visiting La Cazuela beforehand to make sure you have some margaritas in your system....ya know, so you can get the full effect of the Buffet experience.

June 22 Grains of Sand- I have actually not seen them live but they are considered to be singing Motown & Shag music. With the rise of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Charles Bradley and Alabama Shakes...I'm actually excited to hear some old school music....especially under the moonlight.

June 27 Shawn Mullins- Coming back to grace our town is one of the most respected songwriters that Atlanta has ever housed. In all honesty I didn't know much of his work until I heard some of his live stuff and it's great. This is always the most anticipated show of the summer in Lawrenceville and for good reason.

August 24 Abbey Road Live!- Yep, you guessed it, a Beatles cover band. This group has actually played all over Georgia at some of the best venues Atlanta has to offer, so to say that they are seasoned musicians is an understatement. This is why Abbey Road Live! is the second most anticipated show of the summer.

September 28 The Highballs- An 80's cover band. Do I really need to say more? We all have a little 80's in us...some more than others. This should be an interesting one! I really do not know anything about this band but I really, really, really want to go!

While you're down here don't forget all the great stores and wonderful restaurants. Local Republic has outdoor seating so you don't miss any music and even better they have some of the best food around. McCrays has a rooftop that looks down into the square which makes your musical experience that much better and La Cazuela has outdoor seating as well. For an additional fee you can also rent tables on the lawn and bring your own supper but remember, there is no alcohol on the courthouse lawn allowed.

I hope that as a Lawrenceville resident/visitor you can come down to one of these shows and appreciate the fact that your city is providing all this for you....for free!
