Recycling Electronics, Shred Papers at Coolray Field This Weekend

The free event is part of an Earth Day 2013 celebration in Gwinnett.

Going through spring cleaning at home? Gwinnett is offering a chance to recycle that old stuff this weekend at Lawrenceville's Coolray Field.

According to a Gwinnett County news release, the Solid Waste and Recovered Materials’ Earth Day celebration will be Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The event is free, and includes paper shredding, electronics recycling ($10 cash charge to recycle TVs), tire recycling (limit eight tires per vehicle, no dealer tires) and paint collection (limit five one-gallon paint cans per vehicle; no paint thinners, stains, spackle, oil paint cans, rusted paint cans or dried-up paint).

Paint will be donated to Global Paint for Charity, an Atlanta-based nonprofit.

“We’ve been able to recycle more than 60,000 tons of waste since Gwinnett’s countywide trash and recycling program has been in place, but there’s still more we can do,” Tom Keith, Solid Waste and Recycled Materials Division director, said in the release. “This event not only gives us an opportunity to stress the importance of recycling and get more residents involved, but with the paint recycling, we can make a difference around the world.”
