Gwinnett AKAs To Save Lives: “Roll Bounce" to a Healthy Heart with UAO!

The Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter (“UAO”) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is rolling forward in observance of The American Heart Association’s (“AHA”) Heart Awareness Month with “Roll Bounce to a Healthy Heart with UAO”, a family fun night fundraiser at 6:30 pm on Friday, February 21 at Skate-A-Long USA located at 744 Beaver Ruin Road, NW. Tickets are $10.

The fight against heart disease in women has come a long way in the years since the American Heart Association first began focusing attention on how heart disease is not, in fact, a "man's disease." But the fight is far from over.

That being said, UAO has made the “healthy choice” to join in the fight against this silent killer. In fact, the over 272,000 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority members worldwide temporarily put aside their beloved colors of salmon pink and apple green on National Wear Red Day, February 7 with a “Pink Goes Red” campaign in support of the AHA’s Go Red For Women movement.

“UAO is proud to show the community how heart health awareness can be both fun and a family affair,” said Karan Rhodes, President Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter. “Knowledge is power and we are committed to ensuring the residents of Gwinnett County are provided the information and resources they need to lead heart-healthier lives.”

Millions of Americans live with heart disease, stroke or a cardiovascular condition. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading killer of women in the United States, killing more women than all forms of cancer combined.

“UAO is excited to add to our 2014 community service calendar a fundraising event supporting the American Heart Association," said Andria S. Daniels, Vice President, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter. "This event supports an organization dedicated to educating the public on heart disease and will be a fun and healthy activity for the whole family.”

Skaters and non-skaters are invited to join sorority members and their families for a night of cardiovascular activity and fundraising. Tickets are $10 (skates included) and can be purchased from http://bit.ly/rollbounceuao. Proceeds will help UAO in its mission to save and improve lives.
