Award-Winning AKA Alumnae Chapter Encourages Public To “Be Healthy. Be Well. Be Beautiful.”

Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter (“UAO”) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, along with partners H2U- Health to You and Eastside Medical Center is sponsoring a "Community Health Fair” from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at the Snellville Senior Center located at 2350 Oak Road in Snellville, Ga. The health fair is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome and this year’s theme is "Be Healthy. Be Well. Be Beautiful."

Attendees can expect a Blood Drive; Diabetes Screening; Blood Pressure Screening; HIV Screening; information regarding Affordable Healthcare Insurance; Vision Screening; Hearing Screening; Women’s Health information; and Heart Health information – in addition to yoga sessions, a chair massage, and games for kids.

Members of UAO are “ambassadors of wellness” as they have worked tirelessly since the chapter’s chartering in 1994 to educate the public on health-related epidemics such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease, etc. Members wholeheartedly believe when a person’s wellness is heightened, so too is their ability to be productive in all phases of their life: home, work, relationships, etc.

Karan Rhodes, President, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter said, "UAO is so proud to once again partner with our community and health leaders to bring much needed free services to the metro-Gwinnett community.  Last year, out of the numerous attendees, over 25 participants learned they unknowingly had serious health concerns to immediately review with their personal physician. What a rewarding feeling to help save a life!"

Speaking of saving lives, health is a dynamic process because it is always changing. As lifestyles change, so do levels of health. Members
hope the wellness fair will ignite a passion for making the necessary lifestyle changes needed for achieving and maintaining good health, as well as engage the underserved population in caring for their health.

Andria S. Daniels, Vice President, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter said, “Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter is excited about hosting our 2nd Community Health Fair in Snellville. This year we have added additional medical vendors, demonstrations and health screenings to the event. Additionally, Conyers-Covington Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated is sponsoring the blood drive this year.”

“The best part of our Community Health Fair is everyone will benefit from all the free screenings given by the medical participants,” said Dr. Nedra Joyner, Upsilon Alpha Omega Health Fair Chairman. “Each one of us should take responsibility for our health. It will be a morning of information and fun.”
