Couples Tie the Knot at Historic Courthouse on Valentine's Day

Gwinnett County offered free weddings and vow renewals in Lawrenceville, Ga. on the holiday celebrating love.

While some couples exchanged gifts on Valentine’s Day, others exchanged vows.

Brides and grooms came to the Historic Courthouse in downtown Lawrenceville Thursday to celebrate their love with their families and friends. The free February 14th weddings are now an annual tradition in Gwinnett County.

Lionel George and his wife-to-be Caitlyne Tucker of Lawrenceville are full of nervous excitement. The young couple passes the time in the decorated lobby by playing a game together on their Nintendo DS.  Caitlyne is wearing a strapless, tea-length dress in white lace. Her something blue is the feathered barrette in her hair.

The two dated five years before coming down to the courthouse.  “It was time,” said Caitlyne when asked why they decided to get married on Valentine’s Day. “That’s a great answer,” her groom said lovingly while looking into her eyes.

Cynthia found her Mr. Right in Eddie Wright. The couple from Lawrenceville had dated for a year before saying “I do.” Their children Briana and Eddie, Jr. witnessed the small ceremony. Their son excitedly volunteered to serve as his father’s best man.

“It’s Valentine’s Day! A day of love!” said Mrs. Wright in between smiles and happy giggles.

As the Wrights left the building, Caitlyne Tucker’s parents arrived. There were a few hugs and greetings before the group then went into one of the chambers in the old courthouse for the wedding. The entire ceremony was complete in less than five minutes. After the judge declared Mr. and Mrs. George husband and wife, Caitlyne hugged her parents. Mrs. George’s father then welcomed his new son-in-law with a warm hug and shared some words of wisdom and encouragement with him.
