Six Runners from Lawrenceville in Boston Marathon as Explosion Rocks Race

Boston Police said the blast occurred just before 3 p.m. Police say at least two are dead and dozens were injured. Among the runners was former Gwinnett County Commissioner Mike Beaudreau. His family and friends report he is not injured.

Boston Police are reporting at least two people died and dozens were injured after two explosions occurred Monday afternoon near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. 

Video of the incident shows the explosion knocking runners and bystanders to the ground following the blast. 

The Boston Marathon released a statement around 4 p.m. that said, "There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."

According to the Boston Marathon's website, at least six runners list Lawrenceville as their hometown. They are:

  • Mike Beaudreau
  • Mark Coughlin
  • Cynthia Eggers
  • Robert Hammett
  • Karen Heath
  • Brett Jones

According to the Boston Marathon website, Beaudreau, Coughlin, Eggers, Hammett and Jones finished ahead of the time of the explosion. No word on Heath.

Family and friends report Beaudreau is unharmed

The American Red Cross Safe and Well site has been activated.
