Subway Scores a U: Restaurant Inspections September 12

The sandwich chain was cited for not washing hands. Also, another sub shop received an A on a followup inspection.

Prepared fresh sanitizer with 100PPM chlorine. Right dumpster missing drain plug. Drains in receptacles and waste handling units for refuse, recyclables, and returnables shall have drain plugs in place. "Single-use articles" means utensils and bulk food containers designed and constructed to be used once and discarded. Violations: 2-1B, Violation of Code: [.03(5)(c) ] Hands were not washed between changing gloves. Employee was advised to wash hands in between changing gloves. Employee removed gloves and washed hands. Wash hands every time you change gloves. Food employees shall clean their hands and exposed portions of their arms immediately before engaging in food preparation including working with exposed food, clean equipment and utensils, and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 2-2B, Violation of Code: [.03(5)(j)1&2 ] Employee drinking cups did not have lids and were stored in food prep areas. Employees moved cups to a separate location and added lids. Employee drinks should be in disposable cups with lid and straw and stored away from food prep areas. Employees shall consume food only in approved designated areas separate from food
preparation and serving areas, equipment or utensil areas and food storage areas.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 6-1A, Violation of Code: [.04(6)(f) ] Potentially hazardous foods were not being held at a temperature of 41F or below. Employee discarded any food that was above temperature or refridgerated any foods that were out of temperature for less than 2 hours. All cold held potentially hazardous foods must be held at 41F or below.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 8-2B, Violation of Code: [.07(6)(l) ] Household Raid was found in the kitchen area. Employee removed product from the store. Pesticides intended for household use may not be used.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 12D, Violation of Code: [.04(4)(g) ] Tomatoes were washed in the sanitation sink. Employee was advised to wash vegetables in the vegetable sink only and moved to said sink. All fruits and vegetables may only be washed in designated vegetable sink.  Corrected On-Site.  Repeat Violation. 14D, Violation of Code: [.04(4)(n) ] Employee used same gloves when going from sanitizing sink to handling lettuce. Employee was instructed to change gloves between tasks and changed her gloves. Gloves are a single use item and must be changed between tasks.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 17B, Violation of Code: [.06(5)(o),(p) ] Garbage container did not have a drain plug. Drain plugs must be present to prevent leakage from garbage.  New Violation. 17B, Violation of Code: [.06(5)(n) ] Garbage container doors were open.
