Salad Dressing Expired Nearly 5 Years Ago: Restaurant Inspections January 6

A bottle of Thousand Island dressing in a Lawrenceville Mexican restaurant's kitchen had an expiration date of May 9, 2009. Other dressings had expired more than a year ago as well.

The following are restaurant health inspection scores as reported by Gwinnett County:

Violations: 6-2, Violation of Code: [.04(6)(h) ] Pan of cooked chicken with discard date of 01/05 held past discard date. Chicken was discarded. Potentially hazardous foods that are date marked must be sold, consumed and/or discarded within seven days and may not be held beyond the seven days.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 12C, Violation of Code: [.04(4)(m) ] In use sanitzer buckets with Quat sanitizer levels at 0 ppm. Sanitizer bucket at dispenser station was not dispensing sanitizer - PIC had employee change bucket to a full bucket. Quat sanitizer should be mixed to 200-300 ppm active Quat for food contact surfaces.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 16B, Violation of Code: [.06(2)(b) ] Facility using paper towels to block drain at three compartment sink (no stopper provided at sanitizer sink). Provide drain stopper within 10 days. Drain fixtures should be in good working order/cleanable.  New Violation.

Violations: 2-2D, Violation of Code: [.06(2)(o) ] 1. Handwashing sink in bar area observed with cold drink shaker in it. 2. Handwashing sink in the front drink station observed with discarded chips, lemon, and a straw. The items were removed from the sinks and cleaned. Handwashing sinks may not be used for any purpose other than washing hands.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 4-2B, Violation of Code: [.05(7)(a)1 ] 1. Ice bin at rear/kitchen drink station observed with mold in the rear top. 2. Several ladles and long metal spoons were observed with in clean storage with food debris remaining. The surfaces were cleaned. Food contact surfaces must be clean to sight and touch.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 5-1B, Violation of Code: [.04(5)(f) ] A pan of refried beans was observed on the steam table; the head cook said the food reheated at 9AM and was done for service. The beans temped 163°F on the edges of the pan and 118°F in the middle of the food. The beans were discarded. Foods previously cooked in the facility that is being reheated must be reach 165°F throughout the food within 2hrs.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 10D, Violation of Code: [.04(8)(b) ] 1. Several salad dressings were observed with expired dates: Italian 4/28/13; House Italian 3/13/13; Ranch x2 3/24/11; Thousand Island 5/9/09. 2. Several in use drink syrups were observed past expiration: Sprite 07/13; Coke 10/13; Seagram's Tonic Water 7/13; Seagram's Ginger Ale 9/13. 3. A bottle of Mango Mixer was expired in the bar. The foods were discarded. Commercially packaged foods must be used or discarded by the manufactures sell by or expiration date.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
