The Lawrenceville, Ga., restaurant that voluntarily closed last week after scoring 35 out of 100 in a health department inspection, improved by almost 50 points in a May 1 follow-up.

Best Wings at 2522 Cruse Road scored an 83 with Gwinnett County inspectors, with far fewer violations noted on the report. The restaurant was cited for storing raw chicken too close to ready-to-eat food in a chest freezer, having an abundance of trash in and around the outside dumpster, and propping open the back doors, when they should always be closed. All were repeat violations.

The inspector noted that there were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the inspection.

Last week, Best Wings was cited for 19 violations, from improper food storage, using expired food and coughing into hands then handling food containers.

The restaurant will be inspected again within 60 days.
