Catherine Kimbro Finalist for Georgia Country Awards

The Central Gwinnett grad is a finalist in the Georgia Country Awards for best female artist.

If you don't know Catherine Kimbro, you're missing something special.

Catherine, a 2010 graduate of , is realizing her dream as country music artist. She now is a finalist in the Georgia Country Awards for top female artist of the year.

Just a year out of school, Kimbro released her album "Someday" in January.

Now, she is among five ladies, including: Faith Jackson, Lauren Ashley, Heather Hall and Kirstin Underwood, who are up for the big honor. Voting online ended October 9.

According to her website, Catherine grew up in Lawrenceville and was raised on classic country and gospel music. She began writing music at 10, and at 16 she cut her first demo, handing them out to anyone who would take them.

She's played at Writer’s Night at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tenn., and her songs are played on Atlanta’s 94.9 The Bull’s Backyard Country program. She performs in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. According to her website, her next scheduled performance dates are: October 30, Fried Green Tomato Festival in Julliette, Ga.; November 12, Friends Sports Grill in Dacula; November 17, Eddie's Attic in Decatur (benefits The Shad Ireland Foundation); and  December 6, Friends Sports Grill in Dacula (benefits Toys for Tots).

The Georgia Country Award event will take place November 5 at Cowboys in Milledgeville. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 online, or $10 at the door.
