The in Downtown Lawrenceville is getting ready to raise the curtain on its 17th season with Sweet Charity.
This play chronicles the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dancer trying to find her way through love and New York City in the 1960's. The original Broadway production with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields, book by Neil Simon and choreography by Bob Fosse won five Tony Awards.
The Aurora cast stars Rebecca Simon as Charity Hope Valentine and her husband Trent Blanton, a native of Canton, Ga., as all of Charity's love interests.
“We traditionally open the season with a classic Broadway musical at Aurora," said Aurora's Producing Artistic Director Anthony Rodriguez in a release. "Sean Daniels contacted me with this innovative chamber approach to Sweet Charity that would be performed by a cast of just nine people. The more he talked about the ingenious way we could present the show, the more Ann-Carol (Pence, Aurora's Associate Producer and Resident Music Director) and I could not resist."
Opening Night for Sweet Charity is Thursday, August 2nd. It closes Sunday, Sept. 2nd.
Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm. Tickets range from $25 to $35. There's also a Wednesday Discount Matinee on August 22 at 10:00am. Tickets are $16.
