TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane Closure to Convert Jimmy Carter Boulevard at I-85 Continues
Lane closure through Friday.
Construction to convert the Jimmy Carter Boulevard interchange at I-85 to a Diverging Diamond has one eastbound right lane between Crescent Drive and McDonough Drive closed through Friday, April 11, to pour a barrier wall for the bridge.
The work is to bring Diverging Diamond Interchanges (DDI) to I-85 at Pleasant Hill Road and I-85 at Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
Gwinnett County government says on its website that the design will relieve congestion, improve safety and is less expensive than replacing or widening the bridge. A DDI shifts traffic to the opposite side of the road, making left turns onto the interstate easier and improving the flow of traffic across the bridge.
