The ice storm that gripped the north Georgia region on Wednesday forced just about everyone who wasn’t a first responder indoors to wait it out and hope their power didn’t get knocked out.
For tens of thousands across the region, they weren’t so lucky as by mid-afternoon, more than 225,000 people had their power cut due to the freezing rain and snow.
And after an early afternoon break, more wintry precipitation began falling with it expected to continue through the day and into the night.
In addition to winds reaching gusts up to 30 miles per hour, Wednesday’s temperatures only climbed close to the freezing mark. With such miserable conditions outside, of course folks stayed inside and took to social media.
