NCR, headquartered in Gwinnett County, are among companies bringing off shore manufacturing and jobs back to America; strengthening the Made in America brand.
GOOD NEWS: Manufacturing is leading the wave to on-shore made in America jobs. The number of new manufacturing jobs created in the past 12 months is 173,000. Manufacturing is outpacing the growth of the overall economy. With wages rising rapidly in China and Chinese workers being one-third as productive as an American worker, US labor is becoming more competitive to China. By 2015 it is predicted that production cost in the US will be about the same as it is in China. Meaning more and more companies, currently manufacturing off shore, will return to America, bringing more jobs home.
Gwinnett County’s very own, NCR is moving the manufacturing of ATMs to Georgia. This will produce 870 new jobs. Iconic one hundred year old Mars, maker of M&M’s and Snickers, will build its first new chocolate factory in 35 years, a 250 million dollar investment, in Topeka, Kansas; creating 200 jobs immediately and a projected 1,000 jobs later. Chesapeake Bay Candles suppliers to Target and Kohl’s, after 17 years of off-shore manufacturing, opened its first plant in the US, taking manufacturing from China and Vietnam and creating 100 new jobs in America.
