Old Dog Needs Rescue After Being Dumped

An ailing German Shepherd is in urgent need of a home for his remaining days.

A local animal shelter is holding an elderly German Shepherd after he was dumped by his owners, but his time there is running out.

"Poor fellow just needs a soft bed and a loving home to live out his remaining time," said a message from Gwinnett Animal Control, adding that the dog's "stray hold" is ending soon.

A veterinarian who examined the dog said he suffers from dysplasia, bone spurs and lumbar spondylosis, and that he is now on pain medicine.

The dog is said to be friendly and quite large. His animal ID number is 27699.

Poor guy. I wish we had some room for him. I'll share and hope for the best. So sad.

My first reaction was to get mad at the owners and think "Poor baby! How could anyone be so cruel to leave him like that?" Then I remembered that things aren't always as they seem. It is possible that his family loved him, but could no longer afford the medicine to keep him comfortable. Maybe it was causing huge fights in the family. Maybe, just maybe, this was the kindest gesture they could make, leaving him there. Hoping that someone could do what was right when they could not. They didn't toss him out into the streets. They didn't beat him, or shoot him in the back yard. Maybe he's a sweet dog because someone loved him so much that this was all they could do for him now, to give him the best chance. I hope....

Trish, it really made me feel better about this sad situation after reading your kind post. I think giving people the benefit of the doubt is so important. I have 2 rescues of my own, but I hope someone will help this sweet dog.
