Kanoheda ES Student Wins AJC Peachtree Jr. T-Shirt Design Contest

Nicholas Parra's design will be on the t-shirts for Saturday's race in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Track Club announced today that seven-year-old's Nicholas Parra's design will be featured on their 2011 AJC Peachtree Jr. Race t-shirts. The 3K race will take place this Saturday at Piedmont Park in Downtown Atlanta.

Parra's design was picked out of five finalists by Star 94 radio's Cindy Simmons. The winning design shows two children running toward the finish line on a sunny morning and is in the shape of a peach.

Not only did Parra win the design contest, but the student will also take part in the 3K. His family regularly runs in races, competing in at least two each month. Parra has already finished three 5K races in the past year. His winning design reflects how much fun he gets out of running.

“My son recognizes how important exercise is in preventing childhood obesity,” said father Javier Parra in a release. “We’re very proud of his achievement in the T-shirt design contest, as well as his commitment to running.”

More than 2,300 children are expected to take part in Saturday's event. The 3K race is open to children ages seven to 12. All kids who complete the race will receive a pennant and a t-shirt with Parrra's winning design.
