Gen. Beau Lee, Georgia's weather-predicting groundhog, slept in on his big day Sunday, but the hundreds of onlookers at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn were OK with the wait.

Emerging well after his sunrise wakeup call, Beau didn't see his shadow, and his Groundhog Day prediction is for an early spring. It was 50 degrees with dense fog, when he emerged from his “Weathering Heights” mansion.

Beau did not agree with his famous cousin in Pennsylvania. Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter.

Folklore has it that if the groundhog sees a shadow when it emerges on Feb. 2, winter will last another month and a half. If no shadow, then an early spring.

After the winter weather of the past week, Beau's prediction was good news.
