LOCAL PUBLIC SERVICE ORGANIZATION ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT

Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter (GCAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a private non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs to those in need, announced that Latabia Woodward has been elected chapter president.

As president, Woodward is serving a two-year term during which she is responsible for providing oversight to the executive board, managing the day-to-day operations and ensuring the success and sustainability of GCAC. Since the chapter’s founding in 2003, GCAC has grown to nearly 300 members, impacted local communities throughout the Gwinnett County community in the areas of voter registration, health and wellness fairs, economic development forums and youth empowerment initiatives.

A member of GCAC since 2005 and serving on the Executive Board since 2006, Woodward is an active resident in the Gwinnett County community. She is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Gwinnett, an Advisory Board Member for Women in Technology at Gwinnett Technical College and Program Director of the LEAD Foundation. Woodward serves as a Strategic IT Principal for the Southern Company where she is responsible for business solutions succession planning.

Recently certified as a PMP, Woodward graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Decision Sciences/Management Information Systems and earned a Master of Science degree in IT Management in 2008. Woodward resides in Lawrenceville with her husband, Michael and their children.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913 by 22 collegiate women on the campus of Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recently celebrated 100 years of service to communities in need all across the globe in Washington D.C. As one sisterhood called to lead and serve those less fortunate, we are destined to make a difference in the Gwinnett County community, said Woodward.
