Compliance Check Results – 2nd Quarter (Lawrenceville)

The Gwinnett County Police Department conducts regular compliance check sweeps of alcohol establishments to assure that employees are properly checking IDs and preventing sales to underage youth.  Alcohol retailers play an essential role in reducing teen access to alcohol.  Through proper training of their employees, the teens can’t buy alcohol from their stores, and they can serve as a source of information to reduce the possibility that alcohol legally sold to an adult does not end up in a teenager’s hands.

The compliance checks involve youth under the age of 21, ordering an alcoholic drink at an restaurant and/or attempting to buy alcohol at a licensed establishment.  In the past three months, January – March, twenty one establishments were checked in unincorporated Lawrenceville.  The compliance rate during this time was 70%, which means that 7 out of 21 retailers sold alcohol to the underage decoy.
