Condoleezza Rice and Other Things You Need to Know About College Football Playoffs

Five things to know about this and future postseasons.

We are into the meat of the 2013 college football season, as evidenced by the fact that the first Bowl Championship Series standings have just been released.

Which means its time for some interesting things about the BCS, and what it's about to become:

  • SEC DOES NOT DOMINATE: Although the SEC has won the past seven BCS titles, it has just two teams (Alabama and Missouri) in the current Top 10.
  • WHEN IS THE TITLE GAME?: The title game is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2014, in Pasadena, Calif.
  • BYE, BYE, BCS: This is the last year of the much-maligned BCS as we know it. The new College Football Playoff system will take effect after the 2014 season.
  • WHAT'S THIS ABOUT CONDOLEEZZA RICE?: Seems that a committee already has been named to select teams for the new College Football Playoff. Rice, the former U.S. Secretary of State, is among them.
  • WHEN IS SEC TITLE GAME?: It's not a BCS game, but the 2013 SEC title game will be in Atlanta on Dec. 7.
