Looking for things to do with the kids this summer? We find one fun thing to do each day!
The NFL season is just around the corner. The Atlanta Falcons are now in training camp. This is a great opportunity to take your little Falcons fans to see their gridiron heroes. Players will also be available to sign autographs for 15 minutes following practice. The public is welcome at practice at Flowery Branch from 3:30pm until 5:30pm. It's America's pastime and a great way to spend a summer evening. Take the kids today to see the Gwinnett Braves play at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Ga. Tonight they play rival Durham Bulls. Tickets start at just $8. It's also $3 Thursday. You can enjoy food and drink specials for just $3. For more information and to buy tickets, visit the Gwinnett Braves website.
Red Clay Theatre in Duluth presents Wendy Bennett as she sings special kid-friendly songs including "I've Gotta Crow", "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "The Laughing Song" and more. Tickets are $5. The show starts at 11am. Red Clay Theatre is located at 3116 Main St, Duluth, GA.
Members of the Miss Buford Scholarship court will visit the Buford Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library Monday. During the "Royal Reading," Miss Buford and other crown winners will read to children and make crafts with them. It starts at 1pm. The library is located at 2100 Buford Highway, Buford, GA. The event is free and children are encouraged to wear princess gowns, crowns and other royal garb.
It's Friday, time for a quick road trip! Today's suggestion is about an hour away from Gwinnett, to Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Ga.-- The birthplace of the Cabbage Patch Kids. There's free admission, but be prepared because just about everything in the hospital is for sale. Your kids can pick a Kid from the nursery or straight from the cabbage patch and adopt them right there. They also have doctors and nurses to help with the deliveries. You are also encouraged to bring your own Cabbage Patch Kids to the hospital. They'll get a special "visitors" sticker when they come in. …
It's a case of "who done it!" The kids can get a chance to solve a mystery at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center in Buford, Ga. Check out the museum's traveling exhibit "Crime Lab." Kids will search for clues, examine fingerprints and even use DNA to help solve the crime. The exhibit is open now through October 15th. While you're at the GEHC, don't forget to check out the museum's regular exhibits including Water Wise, Discover H2O and Blue Planet. And take a walk down one of their beautiful trails. On Monday afternoon, older kids can learn about another culture at the Collins Hill Branch of the Gwinnett County Library. As part of the library's summer reading program, teens in grades 6 through 12 will learn all about Japan and making sushi. They'll get a chance to make the traditional Japanese dish using fruit flavored candy instead of raw fish. The free event starts at 5pm.
Does your teen or tween dream of being the next Shaun White or Tony Hawk? Then take them to one of Gwinnett County's skate parks. They can practice their jumps, flips and grinds... all for free! All you need to do is bring your own skateboard or skates. There are several free skate parks in Gwinnett County including Ronald Reagan Park in Lawrenceville, Pinckneyville Park in Norcross, and Mountain Park Park in Lilburn.
Kids can get a chance to meet one of their favorite story book characters today at the Lawrenceville Branch of the Gwinnett Public Library. Llama, Llama of the popular kids' series, which includes Llama, Llama Red Pajama, will stop by at 1:30pm for this free event.
The Collins Hill Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library is holding a t-shirt making session later today. Starting at 5pm, teens in grades 6 through 12 can make either a glow in the dark or bleached tee. The event is free, but you need to bring your own shirt.
There's so much to do at Stone Mountain Park, your kids will be entertained all day and all night.  For the nature enthusiasts, you can hike or bike throughout the park. If you're looking to tour the mountain without exerting a lot of energy, there's the Scenic Railroad or the Summit Skyride. Walk along the treetops on the SkyHike and then cool off at the Geyser Towers. Then end the day with the Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision. Save some money on your visit by checking out their special offers and packages.
Michael's craft supplies stores will take your children on a trip to Kenya Thursday afternoon. As part of their Passport to Imagination series, the kids can craft a googly-eyed lion with a mane of yarn. The free event runs from 1pm until 4pm. It's taking place at several Michael's locations including Snellville, Buford, Suwanee and Tucker.
Explore the world of books this afternoon. Both the Lawrenceville and Lilburn Branches of the Gwinnett County Public Library will hold story time for kids ages 3 to 5. For school age kids, ages 6-10, they will also hold a special program for them. Both programs begin at 1:30pm and are being offered at both locations.
There's no question that this should be a fun time for all ages. Head down to Downtown Lawrenceville for Family Trivia Night at the Historic Courthouse Friday evening. The fun starts at 5:30pm. For just $5, you can a slice of pizza, soda and all the questions you can answer! Pre-registration is required and seating is limited.
Grocery stores are filled with sugary treats and goodies that kids beg for. So why not take them to the Farmers' Market where they can have fun with fresh foods. The Berkeley Lakeside Farmers Market opens at 4pm today at 4043 S Berkeley Lake Rd NW, Berkeley Lake, GA. Some vendors include fresh cheeses, eggs, pasta, bread and more. Pick up groceries straight from the farm and take them home to cook a fresh and healthy dinner.
  Take the kids to see "The Garden of Iz" at the New Dawn Theatre Company in Duluth Wednesday. It's not your typical play where the little ones have to try to sit quietly in their seats. Children can jump, crawl and dance and be part of the show. The play is recommended for kids ages three to seven.  Showtime is at 11am Wednesday through Friday. It's expected to be a little cooler Tuesday, so why not take your little one to DJ's U-Pick Blueberry Farm in Lawrenceville?  For just $10 a gallon, you and your family can pick berries to your heart's content. Then take home the fruit to make blueberry jam, muffins, smoothies and more. Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch on the farm. Then once you've fed yourself, you can feed the goats. You can bring any leftover bread, fruits or vegetables to feed to the farm animals. DJ's U-Pick Blueberry Farm is located at 1839 Prospect Road in Lawrenceville.
It's a hot one! So go some where ice cold today. Families can visit the Ice Forum in Duluth to go ice skating all year round. In the summer, open skate is Monday through Friday 10am until noon. There's a second session on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 4pm until 5:30pm. See the website for additional times. Admission is $8. For children under age 5, it's just $3. You can rent figure skates or ice hockey skates for $3 a pair.
Lawrenceville residents can take a short drive to Fort Yargo State Park for some family summer fun. Fort Yargo is located at 210 S. Broad Street in Winder. Don't miss "Fun at the Fort," a Friday evening event that offers visitors a chance to experience a historic site just inside the park. "Fun at the Fort" features candle dipping and bread baking as well as the opportunity for guests to work a card loom. The cost to attend is $3 plus a $5 parking fee. Here's something you don't get a chance to do everyday. The inline hockey ECHO Nationals are being held in Snellville at the SGAA Dual Deck Arena at South Gwinnett Park June 19-24. Teams will be competing in various age groups from 6U to Pro and spectators are admitted free of charge. The address for this location is 2115 McGhee Road. Inline hockey is also known as roller hockey and is a team sport in which the skaters attempt to hit pucks into opposing teams goals using wooden or composite sticks.
