Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

Pictures taken while on the job as Editor of Lawrenceville Patch.
Mayors from the 16 Gwinnett County cities, including newly formed Peachtree Corners, signed an agreement to bring an end to the Service Delivery Strategy (SDS) lawsuit. The mayors and County Commissioners in attendance posed for a photo at the Historic Courthouse after each city and County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash signed the agreement. Lawrenceville Patch will have more on this story.
Students at Georgia Gwinnett College teamed up with campus chefs for an "Iron Chef" style cook-off Tuesday evening. The teams had 90 minutes to create an appetizer, entree and dessert. And just like the reality show, each course had to use a secret ingredient. Find out what that secret ingredient was and what the judges thought later on Lawrenceville Patch.
Jerry Coleman's former teammates honored him before Tuesday night's basketball game against Archer. Members of the team broke through an airbrushed banner bearing Coleman's likeness and the words "Influence, Confidence, Guidance." All the members of the team were wearing airbrushed shirts with Coleman's name. Coleman passed in December at the age of 19 just days after having surgery to remove his wisdom teeth. We'll have more on the retiring of Coleman's jersey tomorrow morning on Lawrenceville Patch.
The holidays are here and we at Lawrenceville Patch are in the spirit! This Christmas tree is on display in the balcony of the Aurora Theatre in Downtown Lawrenceville. It's part of the theatre's Festival of Trees. We'll have photos of other trees on display there in the coming days.
On this Veterans' Day, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Veterans, families and those who were just thankful for their service, came out to Gwinnett County's Veterans' Day Ceremony held at the Fallen Heroes Memorial. Afterwards, some took the time to stop and reflect on and remember the names that appear on the memorial. Lawrenceville Patch will have more on today's ceremony.
Today is Election Day, but the Christmas decorations are already up downtown. We saw equipment surrounding what will be the county Christmas tree once all the lights and the star are on it. Wreaths line the fences and the gazebo is trimmed with garland. Clear holiday lights wind around trees that still have gold, red and orange leaves hanging on to their branches. The Christmas tree will officially be lit at a celebration on the square Thanksgiving night.
Jeff Foxworthy was the guest speaker at the Salvation Army's annual benefit breakfast Friday morning. He shared a special message just for the residents of Lawrenceville encouraging us to get involved in our community. Check back with Lawrenceville Patch as we'll have more on his speaking engagement at the Salvation Army.
Service with a smile... and a purpose. Members of the Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. served fries and strawberry lemonades to customers at the McDonald's on Pleasant Hill Rd. Tuesday evening.  The ladies held their "Red Nights" fundraiser to support their community service projects and scholarships to graduating high school students. Sorority members will be holding two more Red Nights this year-- on November 29th in Snellville and December 20th in Norcross.
These Broom People were spotted in Downtown Lawrenceville right in front of the shops at Honest Alley. Eyes and yarn hair are glued to brooms which were planted along the sidewalk.  The courtyard in Honest Alley was transformed into a cemetery. Gravestones and skeletons lined the pathway leading to The Emporium at Honest Alley Exchange.
While strolling through Honest Alley on a way to a story, I ran into this six foot tall, huge, yellow bird. I thought this Big Bird may have been lost and took out my handy GPS to try to tell him how to get to Sesame Street. Turns out it's one of the entries in the Post-It Note Wars going on in town. Big Bird's made his nest in the window of Rock Paper Scissors. For more information and details on how you can enter the Post-It Note Wars, see the event's page on Facebook.
Council-Member Marie Beiser paid a visit to Ms. Blair's kindergarten class at Cedar Hill Elementary Thursday morning. Beiser read Llama Llama Red Pajama to the class as part of Jumpstart's "Read for the Record." Donning her own red pajamas, Beiser read to a class at each of the elementary schools in the Central Gwinnett Cluster.  After story time, Beiser got down on the ground to pose for a picture with the class in front of a sign welcoming her. Check back with Lawrenceville Patch for the video of readers sharing the story at Cedar Hill.
While driving down Lawrenceville Highway, I noticed crews putting the finishing touches on the brand new sign in front of the new Moore Middle School. The sign on the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road entrance is not up yet.
