On Thursday, The non-profit dance company opened the doors to their new facility in Lawrenceville, Ga. The building is still under construction. GBT announced the move from Snellville in June. Little Lucy Baker came into the world Thursday to a big celebration. Not just because she is the third child of proud parents Brian and Kimberly's. But also because Lucy was the 100,000th baby born at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga. Lucy was born at 10:02am Thursday, weighing in a 7 pounds and 8 ounces. Kids (and some adults too) were jamming and dancing to the sounds of the Scott Douglass Steel Drums as the Brown Bag Concert Series wrapped up. Young ones got to grab instruments and join the jam or try to keep a hula hoop going as best they could. The free concert series was put on by the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation at the gazebo of the Historic Courthouse.
For weeks I had been watching outside my back door as two birds built a nest on my drain pipe and watched carefully over their eggs. Well, now they are a proud mama and papa! I first spotted the baby birds peeking out of their nest with their mouths wide open this morning. Congratulations to the happy family!
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio signed books at Books-A-Million bookstore at Discover Mills Mall in Lawrenceville, Ga. Thursday afternoon. The Republican from Florida was in town to promote his new autobiography "An American Son." Many Republicans hope Rubio will be Mitt Romney's pick as a running mate in the upcoming Presidential election. Patch will have more on this story.

Rain, rain, go away! A wet weekend and a rainy Monday has caused this stream to appear in my backyard. According to the National Weather Service, approximately 1.3 inches of rain has fallen in Metro Atlanta (measured at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport) since Saturday. Today will surely add to that total. As of Monday morning, Lake Lanier was still more than six feet below summer level. At 7:15am, the level was measured at 1064.77 feet. That's 6.23 feet below a full pool of 1,071.00. It all came crashing down late Tuesday afternoon. The old Edge's Cafeteria on the corner of Luckie and Clayton Streets was demolished. The land from the old restaurant, along with a number of neighboring businesses, will be used as a parking lot to be shared by the Lawrenceville Lawn and the First Baptist Church.
The signs for the new Walmart Neighborhood Market have just gone up. The grocery store is expected to open in the Bethesda Walk Plaza June 25th. It will be Walmart's first Neighborhood Market in the state of Georgia. Two other locations in Alpharetta and Snellville are scheduled to open later this year.
The first step in beautifying Downtown Lawrenceville was made Monday morning. Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson, City Councilmembers, State Representative Valerie Clark and representatives for the designers and contractors officially broke ground on the Lawrenceville Lawn. Legendary Atlanta Brave and Baseball Hall of Famer Phil Niekro was seen at Coolray Field. Niekro stopped to take a picture with the Gwinnett Braves General Manager, North Johnson. Knucksie returned to the mound to throw out the first pitch at the G-Braves home opener.
Chipper Jones takes a knee before heading back into the cage for batting practice before Tuesday evening's exhibition game at Coolray Field. The Atlanta Braves All-Stars will take on the Future All-Stars comprised of the best players from their minor league clubs, including the Gwinnett Braves. The Future All-Stars will be managed by Bobby Cox. Jones announced his retirement after the completion of this season. He will play in the Braves' season opener against the New York Mets due to recent surgery.
Former Atlanta Braves skipper Bobby Cox was seen in the visitors dugout at Coolray Field. Cox was surveying the field, prepping for Tuesday's exhibition game between the Atlanta Braves All-Stars and the Future All-Stars. Cox will manage the Future All-Stars team, comprising of the best players from the Atlanta Braves minor league teams in Mississippi, Lynchburg, VA, Rome, GA and of course, the Gwinnett Braves. City and County officials were on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Rhodes Jordan Park Tuesday. The park recently underwent renovations. Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson was there, along with her great nieces, Kathryn and Elizabeth Carter. The three year old twins are Rhodes Jordans' great-granddaughters. Former Girl Scouts and Scout leaders gathered at the Bethesda Park Senior Center Monday to celebrate the organization's 100th anniversary. Congratulations to Jenkins Elementary student Carolyn Phung. Her art design was chosen to appear on McGraw-Hill text books following a nationwide contest. Representatives from McGraw-Hill Education presented Phung, Nancy Crocker's class and Jenkins principal Dot Schoeller with a check for $14,500 for the school.
