Waltzing Through Life – Making the 'Rest of Our Life the Best of Our Life'

Here comes the holiday season, and this week Jack Frost is already starting to “nip at our toes!” The glow of holidays and the rhythm of dance, get us "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, " and even "Frosty The Snow Man" begins to dance around. Dancing is dear to our hearts, since our world together began as a dance lesson. We just celebrated our first anniversary, and now every night we are dance partners.

Over six decades, unknowingly, we "practiced” for the day when we would meet as lovers 60 years in the future. It was just two and a half years ago, Kathy Casper, our ballroom dance instructor from All About Ballroom asked if she could introduce us as “would be” dance partners. One of us thought it sounded like a great way to socialize without the bar scene and the other one was trolling -- you guess which!  Bottom line, we both agreed to be dance partners then and every night…wedding bells!

Ok,ok, a bit sentimental here, but we think it’s worth it: We try and get a dance in most everywhere we go. It keeps us recommitted and further reminds us of what we share.  Partners now until the end, we continue our waltz through life, grateful our paths crossed; we have mutually agreed to “make the rest of our life the best of our life.” And what better way than with an Active Positive Lifestyle! Dancing is one of the many ways we choose to stay active, to stimulate our minds, and to connect with other active positive folks.

So back to dance! Did you know that the first purpose of dance was most likely ritualistic to either appease a spirit or to accompany rites of passages? Maybe so, but we bet it didn’t take too many dance events before our ancestors figured out dancing was pretty fun and a great way to socialize!

We’ve already lined up a few holiday dance events that “tickle our fancy”…or should we say “put a spring in our step!” Our friends at ShowTime Singers of Atlanta have a 1940’s Radio Show Swing Canteen event coming up Nov 17th -- sort of like Garrison Keillor and Prairie Home Companion. Then on Dec 1st the Gwinnett Council for Seniors will be hosting their annual Holiday Dinner Dance with a fully catered dinner, great company, and a live band to dance the night away! And Dec 15thAll About Ballroom is having a "Christmas Means More Charity Ball" with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to cancer charities.

Why not consider making dance a part of your holiday season and also a part of your Active Positive Lifestyle? We would love to share a dance or two with you!  And if you know of any other special holiday dance events, please let us know and we will try and add them to our holiday list. Positively yours, Sheri and Bill

Ballroom dancing is a great way to bring joy to your life, in lot's of ways. Add a little extra pep in your step, and try getting involved in a dance community near you. It's a great way to be social.
