It looks like a little break in the heat is upon us with the chance for very heavy rainfall over the next several days.
The Hydrometeorlogical Prediction Center (HPC) has forecast 3"+ for our area over the next 4-5 days. Tropical moisture from the Gulf in association with a stalled front will work to create very slow moving thoundershowers that will drop a large amount of rain over a very short period of time.
The main threat will be heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and small hail. You can see all the HPC forecasst maps and discissions here.

As much as I would like to believe that this is really going to happen, I have to say that I am starting to think that I am living under some kind of alien force field - or my shields are up! It rains everywhere but at my house! Sometimes, it even rains on my street, but my driveway, cars and porches remain dry!

Well it has been 5 weeks since I put granular fertilizer down and it still hasn't dissolved. No wonder the lakes are going down-no run off.

I agree Linda - you must live by me. I drove down 78 Saturday late afternoon in the pouring rain, turned onto Rosebud to go home, and it was dry as a bone. I hope we get something soon!!!!

If you're short on rain... you're not the only one. I'm almost 6" below normal for the year at DaculaWeather.com.
Most of us here in Georgia are still in an extreme drought. http://www.daculaweather.com/4_drought_monitor.php

745 AM EDT TUE JUL 10 2012
.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 505 AM EDT TUE JUL 10 2012/
.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
MAIN FORECAST CONCERN CONTINUES TO BE PRECIP CHANCES AND QPF IN
ASSOCIATION WITH NEARLY STATIONARY FRONT NEAR NORTH GA AND PLENTIFUL AVAILABLE MOISTURE. LATEST MODEL SOLUTIONS STILL HAVE SLIGHT DIFFERENCES IN LOCATION OF THE FRONT... WITH THE NAM AND SREF
SLIGHTLY FARTHER SOUTHWARD THAN THE GFS. NONETHELESS THERE WILL BE AMPLE MOISTURE AVAILABLE AND ENOUGH RADIATIONAL HEATING TO TRIGGER CONVECTION ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA. THE BEST CHANCE WILL BE NEAR ATLANTA NORTHWARD... WITH LIKELY POPS THIS AFTERNOON INTO EVENING AND AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY. CHANCE POPS WILL EXTEND SOUTHWARD. PROGGED PW VALUES ARE AGAIN NEAR 1.80 INCHES FOR BOTH DAYS ALONG WITH WEAK VERTICAL WIND SHEAR...THEREFORE IN COMBINATION WITH AMPLE CAPE...ANY STORMS WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THE MAIN THREATS OF SMALL HAIL...HEAVY RAINFALL...AND GUSTY WINDS.

Oh, happy day! Rain. We had a wonderful rain last night and I always love a thunderstorm. Here's hoping for a few more days of it. I'd be happy if it rained all week!

I've got some really great videos to upload when I get back. My internet connection here isn't the speediest. I've been uploading one video since Sunday and it's still only 91% done. I got a great one during the thunderstorm yesterday with lots of lightning, I have Greenbrier Road, two video's crossing the Smokies, one going to Newfound Gap from Cherokee, and another one down the other side. We have one of a bear, a waterfall, Roaring Forks Motor Trail (several times, once in the dark), and more to come.

I can't wait to see them. I guess I should've dragged myself out of bed last night to get that torrential rain and lightning on camera. It was very tropical like there for a while -- just sheets of rain.

The photos uploaded are great ! But I'm with Linda on this one. We so desperately need the rain, but so far at my house we've only had a tease. Clouds & thunder were about all I got last night. I hope we get a good soaking out of this system before my neighborhood ponds turn into fields.

Note that some areas in Gwinnett have had more than 6" of rain over the last 3.29 days.
