The Heat Returns, Temps to Hit Upper 90s by Midweek
And the heat returns...
High pressure has pushed westward from the Atlantic into our area and will bring very hot temperatures with it as we progress through the week. Fairly strong upper level ridging with help cap the lower atmosphere and prevent any widespread shower and thoundershower activity for the next several days.
The air is still very moist with dew points in the lower 70s and precipitable water values of 1.5" - 1.9" over our area. What this means is that once we get the really hot temperatures of the day, it's possibe that the combination of the heating combined with the ample supply of moisture, will allow for a few storms to break the cap. Coverage will be about like it was on Sunday with about a 30 percent chance that you might get a shower before the evening is over. We still remain in a west to southwest flow that will continue to bring moisture from the Gulf over most of the southeast.
Look for temperatures to approach the upper 90s by Wednesday with the possibility of some moderation by Thursday/Friday timeframe. Expect the main threat from these thundershowers to be locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Over the next 10 days it appears the southeast will fall in between a couple of high pressure systems. This "weakness" in the atmosphere means that anything that might form in the tropics has a better chance of making it into this area late in the period.
Just something to watch!

My parents live in Sarasota and we were down there the week of the 4th of July. I love the west coast but especially from Sarasota south. I do miss it!

My high heat index today was a nice and toasty 107.4º at 6:15pm.
It's currently (8:16pm) 88.8º after a high of 96.2º at 4:37pm.

Today, the SPC has us in a Slight Risk category for severe weather, mainly over north Georgia (including our area). The ridge that has been over our area is beginning to break down and a trough is beginning to take it's place, and that will be the focus for thunderstorms today.

Well, this will be the last post in this thread. If you didn't get rain yesterday, you probably won't for the next several days. Cooler and drier air will push in to our area beginning later this afternoon and will hang around for a few days. There will still be a chance for a shower later this afternoon, but those chances will fade as nighttime arrives.
It will be a little less humid (go here http://www.daculaweather.com/4_spc_meso_analysis.php and click on "Heavy Rain" and then "Precipitable Water") with our PW values falling to 1" or so. Our temps will also be a little lower and more toward climo with nighttime temperatures falling back into the 60's.
