FIT for a Queen! Ms. Senior Georgia 2012 speaks on Senior Lifesyles and fitness

I should have titled this blog " The Girl At the Library".  I went to the library last Tuesday night to get a book or books on Life coaching and mentoring. I try my best to be constantly aware of personal development since I am in the business world. The girl there who was helping me, pulled out a book titled " Coaching and Mentoring". As she pulled it from the shelf, she commented that it was probably for young people.  I was quite taken aback, even though I know discrimination exists in all cultures and walks of life, because I had never personally been stereotyped or discriminated against because of am a Senior citizen. I began thinking WHY? Do we as seniors act the same and are we thought of as old with no value to contribute to society? Lets look at the definition of the word discrimination. The word means the process by which two stimuli differing in some aspect are responded to differently. The word stereotype is to group according to a fixed or general pattern.  So are we as seniors discriminated against because we have been stereotyped by the way we act?..DO all seniors or different cultures act the same? I think it is time to see the value in all individuals. We should value each life whether young or old! The Bible says for the older women to teach the younger women. SO I challenge you older men and women, you seniors who have grown wise in your years of life experience , step up to the plate. Stop complaining about your aches and pains and add value to someones life!! Mentor where you are placed in life. If you are retired enjoy your time and always find someone to help. If you still work, value the people you work with. Let the old have respect for the young and the young have respect for the old. ADD VALUE to their life and yours. There are many scriptures in the Bible about Loving one another. Luke 6:31 says " and as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them", and Romans 12 :10 says " Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor."  These are just two of many that encourage us to look beyond the exterior and look within and lOVE!!! M. Scott Peck, in his book The Road less Traveled" says " When one considers himself valuable, he or she will take care of themselves in all ways necessary". YOU are valuable and so are all those you meet each day. Show honor to God's creation. Take care of yourself and your "neigbor" in all ways necessary.  Mary
