Teachers of the Year Named at Lawrenceville Schools

They will then go on to compete for the 2013 Gwinnett County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. In its second school year, Moore Middle School names their first Teacher of the Year.

Public Schools in Lawrenceville are celebrating the best of the best. Each school in the Gwinnett County Public Schools system recently revealed the Teachers of the Year at each of GCPS' 131 schools. This is the first step in the process of finding GCPS' Teacher of the Year. The top teachers were selected by their peers at their school.

“Being selected at the local level means that other individuals in the profession recognize the instructional expertise and communal value the local TOTY (Teacher of the Year) brings to their school,” said Nikki Mouton, Gwinnett’s executive director of staff development in a release. “This is an opportunity to highlight the attention to excellence the entire school has as their TOTY represents the phenomenal instruction and professionalism taking place throughout their building.”

Later in September, the 131 will be narrowed down to 25 semifinalists. Six finalists from that group will be selected about mid-October. The 2013 GCPS Teacher of the Year will be named at an annual banquet on November 1st.
